R.I.P. Mr. Seymour Lane
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people: to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have SUCCEEDED.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
This week Wall Ball is paying tribute to a man who who gave many in the New York handball community a place to call home away from home. He is the man behind this small staple in the community known as Zerega, for which has given the local players a place to play indoors during the cold season for over 40+ years! Seymour Lane –
Zerega was first introduced in the mid-70’s when the sport of paddleball was most popular in New York. The owner, “Sy” (87) resided in the Bronx and originally purchased the indoor facility because he had a passion for the sport of paddleball. Forty years later he continued to keep this facility up-and-running not because of money or self-serving reasons, but because he wanted to see that kids and young adults in his community remain active and healthy. His main goal was not the business, but the pursuit of happiness.
From Kathy: “Sy’s family and I would like to thank all of you, our handball, racquetball, and paddleball family for your sincere condolences and support. Sy thought highly of you all as I do. I loved Sy and I will miss him. Thank you all! Love you guys…”
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of such a wonderful spirit…
Rest in Peace Mr. Seymour Lane!
