This week Wall Ball is extremely proud to introduce you to our Player of the Month “Lefty” Lori Acevedo. When Wall Ball President, Jasmine Ray received a call from Lori regarding her condition, she was immediately moved to bring the community together in Lori’s honor. Wall Ball Pro Athlete Lori-Ann Acevedo is a single Mother of twin boys Julian (5) and Jeremy (5) and was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer.  Lori is 29 years young, of Puerto Rican decent and is currently receiving aggressive chemotherapy in hopes to treat invasive cancer in her right breast and shrink a 7cm tumor in her lymphoid before undergoing a double mastectomy in which both breasts will be removed. Although employed, Lori is not covered for disability and cannot afford to miss a day of work as the sole provider for her sons. She is a Professional Wall Ball athlete with over 15 years of experience on the court and many titles under her belt. She is a Brooklyn native, strong, independent Latina who vowed never to give in to what she refers to as just “a hiccup” in her existence.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Jasmine Ray have collaborated to launch a 2014 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign to shed light on the unfortunate rise of the people affected by this cancerous epidemic within the young, urban population.  A press conference, tournament and fundraiser served the local community with prevention practices and valuable information such as statistics and risk factors and local medical care resources while simultaneously promoting the benefits of good health and low cost accessible physical activity such as the sport of Wall Ball.

We are extremely proud to announce that we have raised over $4,000 funds to help Lori in her fight!

Congratulations to our new Player of the Month – “Lefty” Lori Acevedo
