Player of the Year!
Enter every activity without giving mental recognition to the possibility of defeat. Concentrate on your strengths, instead of your weaknesses… on your powers, instead of your problems.

This week Wall Ball is extremely proud to recognize a special athlete who has seemingly dominated the sport of handball for the last 3 consecutive years! This year he is being honored as the Player of the Year at the USHA award dinner in New York City, USA. His drive, determination, skill level and ultimately, his character has earned him the much deserved recognition. Congratulations to our new Player of the Year – Timothy “Timbo” Gonzalez!
Timbo was born in Brooklyn, New York at St. Mary’s Hospital on October 16, 1991. He was the first male in his family throughout several generations to graduate high school and earn his diploma. He attended Harrison High School and participated in several sports such as tennis, football and even competed on the swimming team. Although he was a well-rounded athlete who took to any activity with ease, he preferred the game of handball over every sport. “Everyday after school he would race home to do his homework and head straight to play handball” says his sister Christina Torres. She adds “handball kept him out of trouble and out of the streets. Now Timbo is on the right path, with a good head on his shoulders.”
Timbo has been playing handball since he was nine years old. His mother Mary Lou use to take him and his sisters to Kelly Park and a number of other parks throughout the borough of Brooklyn because she enjoyed playing handball as well. Timbo started playing against high ranked players at St. James Park in the Bronx when he was a young teenager. As he got better he started competing in tournaments and eventually started placing in most of them fast becoming one of the best New York has ever seen. Timbo has played in tournaments in New York, Florida, LasVegas, California, Arizona, Philadelphia, Puerto Rico and is now known as one of the best players around the world.
When asked to his sister Christina Torres also known as Tina; “How do you feel about your brother winning player of the year?”
She responded; “My brother plays handball very well. Ever since he was young I knew he would be great at the sport because he use to always get on the courts with the big time players and if he lost he will simply call next again. I admire that he travels around the world to do something he loves to do. I rather have my brother playing and focusing on handball rather than being on the streets. He deserves it and I am so proud of him. Maybe one day I can do the same and achieve player of the year.”
Timbo has undoubtedly earned the title PLAYER OF THE YEAR mainly because of his drive and determination. He slammed at the US Nationals and at King of the Courts (FL Edition). He has come a long way from the streets of New York City and is now the most viewed handball player on Youtube and the most respected for his athleticism around the world!
