Although he is no stranger to the wallball community, our Player of the Week is the first pro athlete in this sport to ever be endorsed by a major corporation. He has won every conceivable title in the sport of wallball (handball) and is notorious for his aggression and passion. However, one thing the community doesn’t know about this uniquely talented player is that he faced many challenges in his life which have contributed to his fight and conviction when battling it out on the court. Congratulations to our new Player of the Week and Vegas Wallball World Singles & Doubles 1-wall Champion – Timothy “Timbo” Gonzalez.
After being stabbed at the age of 14 while attending MS 143 in the Bronx, Timbo was moved to Harrison NY where he experienced severe racism and prejudice being one of very few individuals of Hispanic decent that attended Harrison H.S. Still, he is one of the first members of his family to ever graduate High School and against all odds managed to catch the eye of corporate giant Red Bull for his athletic abilities. Today, Timbo splits his time between training, traveling the world for competitions and being a Dad to 5 year old Jayden-Jonathan who he refers to as “Baby Dragon.” “He has the same fight in me that I had growing up. Everything I do today, I do it for him. People like me who come from the inner-city don’t get many opportunities to break away from a lifetime of violence or chaos. I want to make sure he’s given that opportunity and that I am present throughout his journey in life,” says Timbo.
Although Timbo faced many hardships, we admire the fact that he fought his way through the challenges he faced as a teenager growing up in the Bronx and today we recognize him not just for his athletic ability, but for the fact that he chose a better path for himself, his family and his future. Congratulations to our Player of the Week, Timothy “Timbo” Gonzalez.
