Congratulations to our New Player of the Week- Carmen Suly Ruiz also known simply as…Suly!

Suly is one of the four female players this year to receive her ‘A’ card. She is very humbled and talented when it comes to her favorite sport – Handball. Suly is a great player who is always hitting corner shots and is very athletic when it comes to hustling.

Suly was born on April 1, 1979. She grew up on 228 Street in the Bronx, New York. She started playing handball when she was eight years old. Her brothers introduced her to the game and she has been paying ever since. She has three lovely kids. Her two oldest follow her footsteps and are as passionate as she is when it comes to playing handball. Suly is a single Mother who manages to raise her kids, work 2 jobs, manage a household and with the little bit of personal time she has left, she dedicates to her favorite pastime, handball.

In the pursuit her dream of becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T), she received her G.E.D in 1998. She went to ‘CODE ONE’ Training School to achieve her E.M.T license and has been working as an E.M.T for eleven years now. She currently works for the Fire Department of New York (F.D.N.Y) going on nine years. Suly’s job is to save peoples lives and be there when an emergency call is made. Working in the back of an ambulance to give patients the treatment they need before going to the hospital is a gift that she has. She is a great help in this world. To manage saving peoples lives and still have time to get on the courts; she is the epitome of today’s hardworking single Mom and a dedicated athlete!

Suly believes that handball is the perfect source of exercise because she refuses to bhe confined in a gym. It makes her sweat and stay in shape and she also has the opportunity to remain social with all her friends. She also considers this sport a great source for stress relief.

Suly’s goal this summer is to try to become a better player and maybe win another tournament. With her drive and determination there is little standing in her way!

Congratulations to our new Player of the Week – Suly Ruiz!
