The Pro Athletes

Timbo Gonzalez – USA

From a young age, it was clear Timothy ‘Timbo’ Gonzalez had a natural talent for handball. He first picked up the sport at the age of eight, challenging locals at parks in Kingsbridge, his neighbourhood in the Bronx. Hard work, dedication, and consistent practice brought him success with locals and propelled Gonzalez to win the King of the Courts in 2011, the biggest singles tournament and crown jewel of professional handball competitions. Winning the competition made Gonzalez’s name renowned throughout the handball community and city boroughs. His secret to success lies in the ability to bring strategy to his gameplay and a developed ambidexterity with his swing. After conquering the World Games for the Olympic Committee in Cali, Colombia and the US Open-style handball tournament Simple Green in California, Gonzalez continues to dominate a growing number of competitions in the evolving sport. When he’s not competing, Gonzelez has an active presence in the streets and parks of New York City, hosting clinics and tournaments for youth players to introduce them to the game. He hopes to bring young kids into the sport to foster positive and encouraging influences, just as handball brought to him.
